Our history


The BIC Overcomers is a Christ-centered biblically based alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility running two, three month sessions, per year serving a maximum of eight men per session.

 

I.  BIC Overcomers
    
A.  Geared towards Native American men but will accept men from any cultural
         background.
    B.  Providing a ministry of reconciliation for Native American families by
         promoting healing—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
    C.  The message is presented in a professional counseling setting with sound
         Biblical content and within the context of the Native American culture.

II.  1997 - 1999
    A.  Began in the fall of 1997
    B.  Participants had choice of 30, 60, or 90 days
    C.  Minimal success (approximately 45%) with this model

III.  2000 - present
    A.  Became a full 90 day residential rehab program spring of 2000.
    B.  Success has increased to upwards of 70%.
    C.  Home Living coordinators—added in 2002.
        1.  House Parents, Instructors and Mentors who share their lives daily with the
             men, forming bonds and relationships that help break down the walls each
             man builds for protection.
        2.  Volunteers who give of their time and energy, pouring healing into the lives
             of our clients.
    D.  Convicted by Christ—a men’s accountability group added to the program fall
         2011 and has been a tremendous aid in helping each client walk a life of
         sobriety by increasing their support structure post-graduation.
    E.  Broken Walls Fellowship--A new church plant in the Kirtland, NM area dedicated to
         reaching out to the families of our clients, past and present.
